«The Moroccan-EU fisheries agreement, a win-win relationship that strengthens the cooperation between both parties», Omar Moro, President of DCIS-Tangier

The protocol to the fisheries agreement between Morocco and the European Union (EU) adopted Tuesday by the European Parliament, is a "win-win" relationship that will further strengthen cooperation between both sides, said the President of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services (CCIS) of Tangier, Omar Moro on Wednesday.

This agreement will injects further momentum into the national marine fisheries through the enhancement of fisheries resources and the development and improvement of the structures in the fisheries sector, and it will support European shipowners experiencing a crisis, said Moro in a statement to MAP.

The national plan for the development of marine fisheries +Halieutis+ directly benefits from this agreement, through which analysts expect improvement in working conditions of the fishing industry in Morocco, he said. He added that the protocol of agreement is in line with the objectives of Morocco on upgrading the marine fisheries sector.

Moreover, this new agreement is both and economic and political success to Morocco, which succeeded thanks to the dynamism of its diplomacy and the efforts of parallel diplomacy to outflank the enemies of its territorial integrity, hostile to the interests in Morocco, he added.

This agreement also demonstrates the strong cooperative relations with the EU as well as the effectiveness of active cooperation linking Morocco and Spain, the European country most affected by this fisheries agreement, said Moro.

He also called keep up efforts in this direction by strengthening the role of diplomacy and parallel diplomacy, including parliamentary and professional, in the development of partnership with the EU.

The new Moroccan-EU fisheries protocol, which is spread over a period of 4 years, provides for an annual compensation of EUR 40 million, where EUR 14 million is for the development of marine fisheries within the framework of the plan Halieutis and provides fishing opportunities for a fleet of 126 European vessels within the available limits.

The protocol also aims to strengthen cooperation between Rabat and Brussels in order to establish a partnership framework for the development of a sustainable fisheries policy that benefits both parties.
