The Airshow Marrakech opens its doors from April 4 to 7. On this occasion, the President of GIMAS (group of Moroccan industries aeronautics and space), Hamid El Benbrahim Andaloussi why Morocco is well positioned to benefit from the global aviation growth. His goal: to double its size by industry to 7 years.

L'Usine Nouvelle - How is this 3rd airshow of Marrakech?
Hamid El Benbrahim Andaloussi - This coffee grows. With approximately 240 exhibitors expected, this 3rd edition will welcome a greater number of partners than in previous years. Forty foreign delegations will travel. China, Brazil, Canada, Russia will be present, some through national pavilions. The major contractors are also there. Dassault Aviation, Embraer, Pratt & Whitney, Lockheed Martin, Zodiac ... And obviously Bombardier decided to establish a factory in future integrated industrial park in 2013 Nouasser MIDPARC short, this show itself as the leading trade fair in the region, key zone between Africa and Europe. It illustrates and reinforces Morocco's position in the aviation industry, now recognized as a competitive industrial platform both in terms of cost and quality, at the door of Europe.

Exactly where is the Moroccan aviation industry in its development?
Today, hundreds of aerospace companies are located throughout the country against only a handful there another 10 years. For about 90% of them, it is French companies: Labinal Piston French, Mecachrome, Souriau, Zodiac, MATIS aerospace ... to name a few. But large foreign groups begin to take an interest in Morocco.
This industry accounts for approximately nearly 10,000 employees and a turnover in the export of one billion dollars. She believes an average growth rate of 15-20% per year. The increase was rapid: there were fewer than 2,000 employees there 7 years! Almost all activities are represented: manufacturing, assembly, surface treatment, maintenance (engines, body parts ...), engineering ... In the field of electrical wiring systems for aviation, Morocco is the fourth largest producer behind Europe the United States and Mexico.

To what extent Morocco benefit he global growth of the aviation market?
We have every reason to be optimistic. The aviation market worldwide is experiencing strong growth and order books are full of aircraft manufacturers for virtually the rest of the decade. It's a great growth opportunity for the Moroccan industry. This encourages companies to seek new industrial bases including in Morocco that is a direct extension of Europe. By 7 years, we believe that our industry could double to 20,000 employees. Major international players interested in Morocco. The recent selection of Bombardier is proof. And he is not alone.
How the country he prepares to seize this opportunity, especially since you're competing with other

low-cost areas such as China, Eastern Europe, Tunisia?
The aviation industry is not a low cost industry, there is a demand for quality. Businesses seek primarily qualified personnel. That is why we invest heavily in training, the key to success. We want to be our No. 1 asset. We opened the Institute of Aviation Professionals (IMA) last year. This initiative was done in partnership with the state, professionals GIMAS (Moroccan Gifas) and the Union of industries and professions the French metallurgy brings its expertise. The institute, which is driven by industry, as operators and technicians in the fields of machining, sheet metal wiring ... but also middle management companies on all aspects of management: logistics, quality, security ... For its first year, 300 people selected from Bac +2 recruiting companies and IMA received skills training last year. It will be 400 this year and 800 in two years.

And what order are industrial investments?
To follow the ramp-up, industrial invest to increase their production capacity as Labinal Mecachrome Ratier Figeac .... In total, about 75 million are estimated to have invested last year. Side of the state, it was decided to create a new business park built on MidParc dedicated primarily to SMEs, at the airport of Casablanca. The development work has started. It embodies the Moroccan ambitions in the field of aeronautics, aerospace, composites, defense and security, and embedded software. It will open its doors to the first quarter of 2013 with the arrival of Bombardier. Everything will be done to facilitate the establishment of new enterprises, especially SMEs because they are often too weak financially to be present abroad. Land and premises will be built and opened for hire provision of workshops provisional production to be quickly operational. A single window will facilitate all administrative procedures. This represents an investment of around 400 million euros from the Moroccan State in 7-10 years. Our goal is to attract 10 years of about 300 companies and 10 to 12 000 jobs in all industries combined.

What are the productivity gains a manufacturer can hope by setting up in Morocco?
There are no easy answers. It depends on the nature of the activity (assembly, maintenance, ...) and the composition of the total manufacturing cost of the product: the cost of raw materials and energy, the share of the workforce, the logistics costs and transfer program ... It is clear that in the very intensive labor activities as the layup of composite parts or wiring, Morocco has considerable competitive advantages. Finally, competitiveness is not that integrates quantitative elements.

How would you respond to some that France, Morocco see these facilities as offshoring?
We are not in the paradigm of offshoring. In settling in Morocco, it does not destroy plants or jobs in France. We are in a logic of co-location. Take for example the case of the French Society Labinal; she became in a few years, the undisputed world market leader thanks in part to its implementation strategy close to its customers in the U.S. and its investment in the country at competitive cost labor: Mexico, Morocco. That did not prevent him from continuing to grow and hire in France, she recently opened a new factory Villemure ultra-sur-Tarn in place of the old.

In an industry like ours globalization, facing international competition, a company if it is not competitive goes straight into the wall. Manufacturers need a technology that makes the difference but also lower production costs. Clearly, installing part of its production in Morocco, a company can gain a competitive advantage and access new markets they previously could not. Companies that locate in Morocco continue to develop in France.
